Margo & Shahid
Planning a wedding is always a privilege. We get to support couples through one of the biggest days of their lives and help bring together the people, places, and details that have shaped their story. Margo and Shahid’s wedding was especially meaningful. A Canmore local was marrying an Australian, bringing friends and family from opposite sides of the world together in the Canadian Rockies.
Their October day began with a light drizzle before the clouds cleared and the sun arrived in time for the ceremony. Later, just as dinner was being served, snow began to fall. For several of the guests visiting from Australia, it was their first time seeing snow. Watching it come down outside Bridgette Bar, surrounded by new friends and extended family, made an already memorable day even more remarkable.
Margo and Shahid exchanged vows beside the water at the Canmore Golf & Curling Club. The pond, evergreens, and mountain peaks created a distinctly Canmore setting, while the flowers introduced a joyful burst of colour. Coral roses, orange dahlias, yellow billy buttons, blue delphiniums, and loose greenery from Fern & Flora lined the ceremony space and filled Margo’s bouquet. The palette brought a touch of summer to the fall landscape and suited the couple’s energy perfectly.
There were personal elements in what they wore, too. Margo’s dress was handmade by her aunt, giving it a family connection no store-bought gown could replicate. Its simple satin silhouette was elegant and relaxed, with a full skirt that moved beautifully throughout the day. Her look was completed with hair by Lighthouse. Shahid wore a light linen suit finished with a hand-embroidered bolo tie, a distinctive detail that brought plenty of character to his look.
Led by Alpenglow Ceremonies, the ceremony was full of warmth and laughter. When Margo and Shahid made their way back down the aisle together, the sun was shining, flowers were held high, and the happiness on their faces said everything. Meghan Fenton Photography captured the day with an honest, lively quality that suited it perfectly, preserving the big moments alongside all the movement and emotion in between.
From there, everyone moved to Bridgette Bar Canmore for cocktails, dinner, and dancing. The restaurant is an exceptional setting for a wedding, with rich green tones, warm wood, contemporary artwork, sculptural lighting, and windows looking out toward the surrounding forest. It has an atmosphere all its own, but Margo and Shahid’s flowers and decor made the space feel completely personal to them.
Bud vases filled with colourful, garden-inspired flowers ran along the tables, accompanied by green napkins, candlelight, handwritten place cards, and small shaded lamps. Decor pieces from Mountain Event Rentals complemented the restaurant’s existing design, while the floral arrangements brought the colours from the ceremony into the evening. Each stem was given room to stand on its own, creating tables that felt layered, natural, and full of personality.
One of the most personal details was the guest book. Because Margo and Shahid love spending time in the kitchen together, guests were invited to leave their messages inside a cookbook. It was a simple idea that said so much about them and created a keepsake they can return to as they cook together in the years ahead.
Food was an important part of the celebration, and the Bridgette Bar team delivered an outstanding multi-course meal. Each course gave guests time to settle in, connect, and enjoy the experience together. Then, almost perfectly on cue, snow began to fall outside. For the visitors experiencing it for the first time, dinner briefly paused as everyone took in the moment.
A cake from Pretty Sweet YYC, decorated with delicate hand-painted flowers, carried the wedding’s bright palette through to dessert. Then the tables cleared, Visual Sound Waves turned up the music, and the celebration moved onto the dance floor. Margo and Shahid were surrounded by people who had travelled an extraordinary distance to be there, and the room carried that sense of occasion all night.
This wedding was a true meeting of worlds. Australia came to Canmore, summer flowers met autumn mountains, and sunshine turned to snow within a matter of hours. Through it all, Margo and Shahid created a day that was generous, personal, and unmistakably theirs.
